Sometimes the iPhone may hang or fail to meet our expectations, so to restore or improve performance, it’s worth restarting it. Below you will find instructions on how to perform several types of reset. How to restart iPhone?

How to restore iPhone to factory settings?

Restoring the iPhone to factory settings involves performing one of three actions:

  • we enter Settings / General / Reset – here we can choose what exactly we want to get rid of (this solution may not be fully effective);
  • we connect the iPhone with the computer using a cable, then turn on iTunes and select “Play iPhone” – this will ensure permanent deletion of data and the system;
  • turn off the iPhone, and then press Sleep / Wake and Home at the same time (as in the usual reset, but this time you need to press until the message “Connect to iTunes” appears).

Hard reset or soft reset?

Sometimes it may happen that the iPhone simply stops working, so you need to turn it on / off through the so-called hard reset. In a simple instruction we will show you how to reset the iPhone in the usual way or when the usual way does not work. Basically, there are two ways to reset the iPhone depending on the model. Hard reset means that you have to press the right combination of buttons.

How to do Soft Reset step by step?

  1. Hold the Sleep / Wake button on the top or side of the phone until the slider appears on the screen.
  2. Release the button.
  3. Move the slider to the right as instructed. At this point, the phone will turn off and the screen will go blank.
  4. Hold the Sleep / Wake button again until the screen turns on.
  5. Release the button.

A good phone restart is essential. Also called Soft Reset, it is nothing more than the process of turning the equipment off and on again. Restart is very useful when you do not want to take on the complications arising from Hard Reset. It allows for non-invasive “calming down” of the Equipment and is often used to simply mute the phone.

iPhone 8 and newer

Press and release the Volume Up button (left side edge), then the same Volume Down and then hold Sleep / Wake (right side edge).

Hold the Sleep / Wake buttons until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

Release the buttons when the Apple logo appears and let the device reset.

iPhone 7/7 Plus

Simultaneously press the Sleep / Wake button (right side edge) and the Volume Down Button (left side edge).

  1. Hold the buttons until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds) and wait a moment.
  2. Release the buttons when the Apple logo appears and let the device reset.

When restarting the iPhone X, iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone 7/7 Plus, the procedure is different because, unlike older models, they do not have a mechanical home button.

Older Iphone models

  1. Press the Sleep / Wake button (top or side edge) and Home Button (under the screen) simultaneously.
  2. Hold the buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen (about 10 seconds).
  3. Release the buttons when the Apple logo appears and let the device reset.
