What to do if your phone is lost or stolen? Surely you shouldn’t panic because there is a track an iPhone option. See how to do it.
Find my device
Using the Locator application, you can easily find your device and take additional actions to help you recover it or protect information on it. Here’s a brief instruction: (from Apple)
Log in to icloud.com/find or use the Locator app on another Apple device.
Find your device. Open the Locator app or go to iCloud.com and click Find iPhone. Select a device to view its location on the map. If your device is nearby, you can use the option to play audio on it to help you or someone nearby find it.
Mark device as lost. This will lock the device remotely with a code. You can display your own message with the phone number on the device’s lock screen. The location of the device will also be tracked. After entering the device in Lost mode, the option to pay using Apple Pay on your device will be suspended.
Don’t forget to report the theft to the relevant services. Find the device serial number, you may be asked for it.
Erase the device. This will prevent anyone from accessing data on the missing device. Erasing will delete any data on your device (including cards added to the Apple Pay service) and prevent you from further finding your device using the Locator or Find iPhone application on iCloud.com. Devices that are erased can no longer be tracked. If you delete the device from your account after erasing, the activation lock will be turned off. This will allow someone else to turn on and use your device.
Don’t forget to report the loss or theft to your mobile operator so that he can block your account and prevent you from making calls, sending text messages and using data.
Find my friends
If your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is iOS 9 to 12, the Find My Friends app is installed automatically. If your device uses iOS 8, you can install the free Find My Friends app from the App Store. By logging in to the iCloud device on your device, you also automatically log into the Find My Friends application using your Apple ID account.
If you want to receive notifications from the Find My Friends app on your Apple Watch, you can turn them on in the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Then go to the My Watch tab, tap Notifications, scroll down, tap My Friends, and then tap to enable the Clone iPhone alerts option. If you’re using watchOS 4 or 5, you can also turn on notifications from your Apple Watch. Select Settings> General> Location Services. Then enable the Send my location option.
You can also use the Find My Friends app on iCloud.com.
